Knotweed arriving from an empty house, a rental, a gap site or a canal bank is among the commonest reasons St Helens residents call us. The survey records the stand, the point where it crosses the boundary and the likely route. You can use that evidence with the owner, and a barrier can protect your side while it is sorted out.
Start with dated photographs and a survey. Together they show where the stand begins, how far it has crossed and when you first reported it. Keep any messages with the neighbour or landlord. If matters ever escalate, that sequence of dates counts for more than anything said after the fact.
Many owners are unaware the plant is there. A short letter with a copy of the survey is often enough to start action. For empty houses and gap sites, the Land Registry can help trace the owner, and the council may be able to assist where a property is neglected.
While the source is sorted, treating your own patch and fitting a root barrier along the boundary can stop it getting worse. A barrier does not kill the plant, but it keeps your garden usable and shows you took sensible steps.

One leaf and a length of stem will do. Use the contact form or message us. No cost.

If it is knotweed we come out, measure the stand and record what is near it.
